HELLO CANTON, OHIO

Friday, July 20 – We have returned to “the land of our roots” - Canton, Ohio. We are here to visit family and friends, take care of doctor appointments, and RELAX! Our only objective is to escape the area BEFORE cold weather and snow.

We are booked at the Bear Creek KOA for a month. This is the only KOA we stay at during our travels because of the lack of alternatives here in the Canton area. We are not very fond of KOA's. They have many family oriented programs that we do not use and would rather not pay a premium for, but this park is well situated near family so we're here for now!

We are in site # 19, a long term site (30 days +) with 50 amp electric, water, and sewer. The sites are gravel and the streets are newly paved. The campground is built on a hillside so all the sites are tiered. We have a much better site than last year. We have a larger side yard, perfect for sitting out and plenty of space for the picnic table. We haven't had any neighbors since we arrived. All-in-all, it's not a bad campground.

We will do a tour of the campground in another post.

After we got set up, we went to visit dad. Marsha did not tell her dad she was coming. She wanted to surprise him, AND boy was he surprised.

  7. Of course, he was surprised. You didn't expect to get there until August. And, what a wonderful surprise it was! Glad you made it and you made it safely.

  9. Great pics of your Dad, Marsha. What a great surprise for him, I'm sure.

I like the looks of your site at that KOA and the park looks pretty nice too.

Canton, Ohio? Football Hall of Fame, right?

  10. Great shot. I never would have thought to do that.

We are not fond of KOA's either. And to think they used to be the premiere campgrounds.

  11. Priceless look on your dad's face. We did this one year, a very long time ago, surprising family in Turkey. It's always nice to see that genuine, unaffected pleasure. Agree about the KOAs.

  12. Looks like one very surprised and happy father. We will be visiting parents in the Dayton area in about 3 weeks. The only thing we are not looking forward to is the weather. Oh well, can't have everything!

  15. Check out Springwood Lake in Navarre...I'm thinking they may have some sites available through the individual owners....We had a site there when I was growing up...831....it was my second address!!!

  16. Yes, that look on your Dad's face is priceless alright!!! Welcome Home!!
The Campground looks nice... Of course we don't care for KOA either... We call it Keep On Adding=KOA. But worst of all, it is a strong member of the organization that is behind getting cities and counties to pass "No RV Parking" anywhere in the city or town except in a RV Park...

Enjoy your stay with friends and relatives..

  18. KOA's aren't our place of choice either but we have worked for 3 summers at 2 different locations. They are definitely family oriented. If it works for you that is what counts. You probably won't be spending a lot of time there anyways if you are visiting family and friends.

Sure glad that Marsha's Dad didn't have a heart attach when he saw who it was. Have a great time with your family.
