ANOTHER DAY OF NOTHING BUT DRIVING

Thursday, September 5 – Fifty miles east of Denver we spotted the Rocky Mountains.

rockie mts.

We decided to stay on I-70 and go straight through the city. Not too bad. Lots of traffic but we kept in our lane and cruised along without any trouble. Once west of the city we began our climb (6% grade for 10 miles) up our first mountain pass. The truck hauled the 5th wheel up but the turbo was screaming. We were down to 35-40 MPH. I don't even want to speculate fuel mileage....YIKES!

We stopped just west of Denver in Evergreen, CO, for the night. Walmart docking again tonight. We have a great spot out back all by ourselves.

Tomorrow should be an interesting day climbing over the Rockies. We're praying for no mechanical problems and a safe trip through Colorado.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!

  3. Whatever the mileage, I'm sure it's pretty good for a house, so don't sweat it.

  4. Don't run out of fuel, it can be s long way between stations out there. Our turbo can get pretty loud on long hills too. Enjoy the scenery.

  6. We had a screaming turbo doing the mountains in 2012 and averaged 7 mpg for that stretch of road. Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  9. Our truck gets really loud climbing up those mountains also. Jim keeps telling me it is okay and that it's doing what it's supposed to but I don't always believe him. Fuel mileage - ha ha.

  10. Great shot of the Rockies off in the distance. Sometimes, I worry more about going down the hills than climbing up them.

  12. Hope you take some time and enjoy the Rockies, they really are beautiful.

When we are driving Sherman we are more worried on the downgrades rather than the ups. Steep grades we do in 1st!

Enjoy your drive and the scenery.

  17. We left Oregon early and are in Idaho. Our mountains were all easy this leg. Photos are great! It is sooo good to hear about your travels once again. OH! What kind of wine did you get in Tipton or Anderson IN? You missed Oliver Winery in Bloomington and Mallow Run in Whiteland, Just south of Greenwood.
