LANDED SHORT OF HOUSTON

Monday, October 28 – We are still heading toward Houston. Our normal campsite, the Houston Elks, is packed. It looks like we may not be able to get into their campground until December…if then! So we decided to make a stop in Bay City, Texas.

We are staying at a relatively new campground, 60 North RV Park. It gets its name from the location....Texas Route 60. It is a Passport America park offering 50% off for the first two nights. It has very nice and long concrete pads with plenty of room for your RV and vehicle. There is a nice grass berm between each site. All the sites are 50 amp electric full-hookups with water and sewer. The managers and office workers are very nice. We are parked on site P-28.

We are about 1.5 hours from Houston. We actually drove up to Houston this afternoon to look at some alternative campgrounds. Unfortunately, we didn't find anything in our price range. Looks like we'll have to move further out to the surrounding area to find a place this time. Dang!

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!

  1. This campground looks really nice. Too bad it's so far from Houston. :-( We stayed at Green Caye RV Park in Dickinson about 40 mins. south of Houston and it was nice. http://www.greencayervpark.com/

  3. Some of the really great Elks parks do fill up especially this time of year in the south. We usually call a day or two ahead of time to put out feelers. We like the one we're in. Matter of fact, we like it so well that we may stay here longer than we figured we would. Lots of luck with your search.

  4. Thee is a wonderful free county park in Tomball that even has full hook-ups. They have a 7 day limit and they do take reservations. The website is

  5. Houston - we have a problem! We need a great campsite that's cheap and has full-hook-ups with great wifi.

There, I've always wanted to use that Houston problem line so thanks for giving me the opportunity!

  6. We stayed at Shady Oak RV park in Richmond. Basically a gravel parking lot with hookups for $20 a night back in 2009. It made a good base for us but may be on the wrong side of town for you and, in Houston, that matters.

  7. Darn that Elks! Didn't they get the memo that you were in town! I do like the site you are in with all that concrete! But you are definitely too far from Carrie. Hope you find something closer:)

  8. I lived in Houston in the late 60's early 70's and that would have been an amazing campground then:)

  9. Like any big city. The closer you get the more expensive the rv park.

  10. We enjoy our membership camping for the last 13 years and very rarely pay more than Ten dollars a night. We have a couple north of Houston, and prefer to camp away from the big cities. But you have a purpose to be there, that is different, good luck.

  11. Escapees Rainbow Park in Livingston isn't that far from Houston. That's the only park I know around there. I'm not sure what part of Houston you want to be near.
Hope you find a nice cheap place.

  12. Too bad about the Elk's spot. I've only stayed at the refuge near Houston, so I can't help with any suggestions.
