GOINGS ON AT THE WEAVER’S SUMMER HOME

Sunday, May 15 - All is well here in Canton, Ohio. We've been here a month and have been pretty busy working around the house, enjoying our hobbies, and watching spring arrive here in Ohio.

Speaking of Spring, it is so pretty here in Ohio during the Spring.

Paul enjoys mowing grass, but with his arthritic knee it has become quite a pain. To overcome this he decided to buy a new riding mower. Didn't he once say, “Never again!” Ha Ha! He's really enjoyed zooming around doing the mowing. A little over-kill on our small lot but this getting old thing needs to be dealt with. :-)

During our full-timing years, Paul missed mowing the grass and having a workshop. He's using that workshop to do some improving to our summer home here in Canton. We returned to Ohio a little early so he could replace the soffit and fascia on the house before Marsha's flowers poked up during the spring. Wouldn't want to step all over them and ruin some of her previous year’s hard work. The previous owners were pretty sloppy do-it-yourselfers. Last summer, we replaced most of the vinyl siding so next on the list was the soffit and fascia. That only took a couple days so Paul moved on to a bigger project.

He is building a second bathroom down the basement. This is a common home improvement in our neighborhood of small bungalows. He's in the thick of it now having just finished installing all the underground and under the cement waste lines. That was hard work!

Before construction.

No way could he could have done any of the underground plumbing without a little help.

See the big pile of dirt in the next photo. We had two of those piles. Any dirt, rock or cement that didn’t go back in the hole as fill, we had to carry upstairs. We made tons and tons of trips up the steps and outside carrying two buckets at a time. We really are too old for this!

He now moves on to the “enjoyable” part of the work – building the walls. He's in no hurry to finish....he doesn't want to finish too early and spend the summer sitting around.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y’all back real soon. Have a great day!

  1. The man is amazing! Very sweet to have a carpenter on hand. But that bathroom is some project! Great job, Paul! These are all things neither of us miss. Glad you both enjoy your home projects:)

  2. That sounds like a lot of w*rk Paul is up to. So glad it's something he enjoys so it isn't w*rk to him. Like his new 'ride.' I can't believe all the dirt, rock and cement you had to lug upstairs and outside!! Great job, Paul!

  3. Getting those jobs done is rewarding, I did a few reno's, additions and bathrooms over the years, don't think I want to do anymore though.
That zero turn mower is a fun ride if you have to mow the lawn.

  6. Like I've mentioned for the last few years "Paul's Reno Contractors" coming to a neighbourhood near you. Great job Paul.
Looks like you've been getting better weather than we have. Right now the 35 mph gusts are rocking the trailer.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  7. That man is going to work himself right into the grave. Which sounds like his preferred way of going since sitting around is on his not do list.

  8. And here I thought you were out exploring ;-) Actually no, I knew this post would be about DIY projects around the house ... it's what Mui would do, too.

  9. When you get through with him send him this way. We have lots of projects that we figure will never get done!

  10. During our full timing years I did not miss any of that stuff:) In fact, I really dislike all that stuff more now that I have to do it again!

  11. O h my gosh, he is REALLY taking on a project. I can relate...Len misses his shop, I miss mowing grass. Well, we looked at property last week in Alabama. 10+ acres. Yea, that would mean LOTS of mowing.

  12. And next summer he'll add a top floor to the bungalow :-)

Seeing him do all that makes me glad all I've got is 400 sq. ft. and no yard to mow.

  13. I bet Paul looked forward to come home every summer, he seemed to have a long list of projects. Which I believe is a good thing.
Steve misses his tools and doing projects like that too.
