Thursday, June 21 – We headed to Bremerton, WA, today. Bremerton is a Naval town across Puget Sound from Seattle.
We are staying at the Bremerton Elks Lodge. We were told its worth the stop here just to see the view of the Olympic Mountains out the Lodge dining room windows. Boy, what a spectacular view! Priceless!
The side yard is huge. The mountains are right across the river. The Elks Lodge campground has 30 amp electric and water hook-ups. There is no dump station, but one is available at the fairgrounds about five miles down the road. The sites and streets are gravel. There are shade trees so satellite connectivity could be an issue in a few of the sites. They have restrooms and a beautiful lodge. There seems to be numerous activities going on at the lodge.
Site 10. Yes that is Bella getting into the photo.
No one can fit in the site at the end so we have double the room.
Looking left…no where to go.
On our way here, we drove a ways up WA-101 – the Hood Canal. What a beautiful drive! The Olympic Mountains, the Hood River, quaint little towns, and beautiful forests.
We even saw our FIRST Eagle. It was really high up so we zoomed in as much as possible…cool.
The road is very windy and narrow, so it's slow going. Speeds in the motor home were between 20 – 35 mph. There are very few places to pull over to let motorists pass, so we had cars backing-up behind us. This would be a fabulous drive in the car!
After we settled into our campsite, we drove to check out the ferry terminals for future sightseeing adventures and then into Bremerton to see the Navy Shipyards.
It's amazing to see aircraft carries right along the highway. The destroyer “Joy” was also in the harbor with tours available. Other Navy ships are anchored off shore throughout the harbor.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope y'all come back real soon. Have a great day!
Nice eagle! Glad you got such a nice spot, there. Enjoy. Probably gonna need the rain gear again this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great shot of the Eagle. Now tell me, who has more fun than RVers?
ReplyDeleteMake sure that eagle doesn't get Bella!
ReplyDeleteWow! Your Elks membership has been a really worthwhile investment! The parks out west are really nice.
ReplyDeleteYou got a great picture of the eagle. What a thrill!
The Naval shipyard should be really interesting! I'm fascinated with aircraft carriers. Hope you tour and write about it! Looking forward to your ferry adventure, too!
Haven't been to Bremerton for years but found the city and the ships in the "graveyard" very depressing.
ReplyDeleteI am soooo getting a camera like yours when we go to work at amazon this winter! The zoom to that eagle was great!!
ReplyDeleteYou got the eagle! Yahoo! We really liked the view from the Bremerton Elks. We thought it gorgeous. I'm curious as your route to Bremerton since you said you drove the Hood Canal? Did you go the long way around then??
ReplyDeleteI have yet to get a good picture of an Eagle. Your's was incredible. I'm sorry it's so cold and rainy out your way. It's going to be 100 on Sunday for the wedding which is not going to be fun.
ReplyDeleteThat Elks Lodge park seems like a very nice place to stay.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to have lots of Eagles around these parts. There not always easy to get pics of though so yours was pretty neat to see.
Have fun at the Navy yards.
enjoy your stay in Bremerton!!..the rain gear will be a must in the next day or two I am sure..soggy and wet just north of you where we are!
ReplyDeleteWe once saw a pair of eagles--one on one branch and the other on the branch above. We had our binoculars with us so we couldn't share the picture, but I've never forgotten the image.
ReplyDeleteSaw one in Reed Bingham State Park here in Georgia last November. The are beautiful birds.
I love the town of Hood River, though it's a challenge to drive--no traffic lights! It's alive with young athletic people living the good life.
One year we were there and they had a wind surfing tournament and it was a great afternoon of being spectators in gorgeous weather.
Love your blog.
Yeah, glad you guys got see our national symbol...
ReplyDeleteGreat photo and great part of the country.

ReplyDeleteWhen we get to that area. . .we will do the same as you guys. . .stay in the outskirts and ride the ferry. . .

Janice
