WE'VE LEFT THE RUGGED OREGON COAST!

Wednesday, June 13 – We had an easy and uneventful drive from Nehalem, Oregon, to Vancouver, Washington.

Marsha did not like what she saw ahead. She hates crossing bridges and the one from I-30 to Kelso, WA, was a long and high one. PLUS…there was construction on the bridge. Oh dear!

It was raining off and on and rather foggy in places.bridge to WA

We are “camping” at the Vancouver Elks Lodge.

What a difference from the quiet and serene Nehalem Bay State Park. Instead of wildlife, we have highway noise from the nearby I-205.

This is our backyard…a VERY busy I-205.backyard

The campground at the Vancouver Elks is at the edge of the parking lot. There are 15 sites with 30 amp electric and water. There is no dump station here. One is available a couple exits north on I-205. The lodge is very nice, and the people are friendly.

The BIG negative, so far, is the traffic noise from I-205. Hopefully, the traffic will lessen tonight and the noise won't keep us awake.

We have great sights to see here in the Portland area. Things like Mount Hood, the Columbia Gorge, the Columbia River, Multnomah Falls, and the city of Portland. We are also meeting good friends, Jeri & Terry Williams, Just Wanderin', who we haven't seen for almost three years. They are going to be our guides around Portland for a couple days. So nice to have personal tour guides, and the prices is excellent!

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!

  1. Now you can't say I didn't warn you about the highway noise. Just pretend it's the ocean and you'll do okay. That's what we do. See you tomorrow!

  2. Is it a little drier since you moved off the coast? Sounds like you will be busy having fun with friends.

  3. I'm sure, even without your guides, you'll find the neatest places to explore, you always do. I hope you get to dry out a bit.

  4. For some reason, I've learned to ignore highway noise. It never bothered Jim but it was something I had to get used to as we started traveling. Have fun with Jeri and Terry. Which I know you will.

  9. Enjoy your visit. We're supposed to be getting some nice weather. If you make it as far as The Dalles, the Columbia Discovery Center is a neat stop.

  10. Do take the Hood River Loop, for great views of Mount Hood! You'll see lots of apple and pear orchards, probably still in the blooming stage, or just beyond.

  12. Jeri has enough energy to keep up with you two but I hope you'll let Terry wave you off some. :)

I look forward to seeing some more territory from your perspective.

  13. Goody --- we get to see some of the places we visited back in the 80s and see how they've changed since then.
