Sunday, August 12 – We spent today on a sailboat! Our first ever sailboat adventure.
Our daughter, Kelly, and her boyfriend, Dave spend many summer weekends on the sailboat that Dave's parents own on nearby Atwood Lake. They invited us to spend today with them on their boat.
Our First Mate, Jackie, took us out to sea with Captain, Dave, looking on.
We began our day with a short tour of the Atwood Lake Yacht Club. What an impressive place. They have a swimming pool, restaurant, and tavern. They even brew their own beer in their micro-brewery.
We then walked down to the docks to see the sailboats and meet up with Dave's parents – Dave Sr. and Jackie. They have a beautiful 30 foot sailboat. We don't know a thing about sailboats, but we sure thought it was a pretty nice boat.
Take special note of the sign men.
The DiCato's sailboat named the Unless. (Long story on the name.)
The Club was having a race this afternoon, but we were not involved. This was just a pleasure trip.
We used the motor to move out of the dock area and into the main lake. Then it was time to set the sails and catch the wind. How cool.
We got moving pretty fast and even leaned the boat into the wind. Pretty interesting. Marsha wanted nothing to do with the boat tipping – she got down on the floor (or is that the deck....LOL)
After several hours on the lake, we headed back to the docks. The yacht race was ending, so we decided to head for the Clubhouse and enjoy the captains' bragging about their boats and consume a few beverages with the crews.
Thanks Dave and Jackie. It was a great day on the lake, and we sure enjoyed our first sailboat experience. Now if we could just sell our motor home, we could sail the Great Lakes in our new sailboat...ha ha!
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!
Glad you enjoyed the sailing. Sailing was our "thing" for many years and I still miss it some. We sold our last sailboat when we went full time in the motorhome.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat experience. I've never been on a sailboat. I've always thought it looked like too much work.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! So glad you had such great weather. I think I might have kept you company on the deck, Marsha!
ReplyDeleteDave's parents paid for us to go to sailing school in Annapolis, MD, one summer in preparation for a week's sailing on Chesapeake Bay. We passed the test but I'm not a good sailor. I'd have been on the floor with Marsha. Instead I was on a train to Philadelphia with our daughter while Dave and his parents and brother went sailing.
ReplyDeleteSell the motorhome?????
ReplyDeleteOh how fun!!! I would love it. I wish someone I knew would buy a big sailboat and invite us to go with them. Any chance you might be looking into it?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful looking sailboat. Sailing is fun but can be a lot of work too if you use the sails!!
ReplyDeletePretty spiffy looking yacht club!
what a great way to spend the day!!..my parents were boaters before they bought their motorhome!..I always enjoyed going out on the water!..the peace and quiet of just using the wind to travel is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteAny day on the water is a good day!
ReplyDeleteSailboating what a neat time.We have never done that looks like fun.
ReplyDeleteLove the sign so true..
Well, thqat's a different kind of adventure than we usually read about, and we enjoyed the change! We've never sailed except on a group thing out of Hawaii one evening. Thanks for the ride!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on a sailboat in many years. Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a day. Being on or near the water is always a great day.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Karen and Al. ..any day on the water is a good day. . .and sailing is so quiet and peaceful. ..absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good experience on a sailboat. We went sailing a few times with friends in Pensacola. Seems like the wind always died and we ended up having to motor back in. Solid ground is more to our liking!
ReplyDeleteThink I'll stick to my land yacht, thank you. :) My stomach doesn't like rocking boats out on the water.
ReplyDeleteYou sure had a lovely day for your sailboat adventure. I enjoy them ... as long as someone else is doing all the work :-)))
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful time on the water. I like to go for rides on other people's boats!! We used to have a boat when the kids were smaller but these days, I'm just as happy parked beside the water as out on it.
ReplyDeleteI've never been on a sailboat, and even though it looks like a lot of fun, I think I'll sit down there on the floor/deck with Marsha. ;)
ReplyDeleteWe went with some friends on their sailboat and it was a different experience from just a motorboat. I'm not to sure I like all that leaning that goes on..but it was fine when you stayed upright. Have fun.
