Sunday, March 24 – We have been in the State of Texas since November 5 (all except a brief flight back to Ohio for the Christmas Holiday). Guess that's why we call Texas our “official State of residency.” We hoisted the anchor early this morning heading East. We are staying one night at the Coushatta Casino campground and will then spend three nights at the Silver Slipper Casino RV Park in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. We have been to both campground casinos in the past. Coushatta makes a great over-night stop. Silver Slipper is a wonderful place to enjoy the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
We decided to take TX-12 and LA-190 instead of driving Interstate 10. TX-12 did not disappoint us. Texas sure has some nice highways as an alternative to the interstates. Now Louisiana 190 was a different matter. It was mighty bumpy! Paul had to switch on his emergency flashers and travel at about 25 MPH to keep from shaking everything apart. My gosh! Why does Louisiana have such terrible roads? We won't take that route again.
Regardless, we made it to Coushatta Casino Campground in Kinder, LA, in one piece. This is a very nice campground with full-hookup 50 amp sites. Each site has a concrete pad and patio with a picnic table and nice trees and grassy areas between the sites. The streets are paved. They have a shuttle that picked us up and deliver us to the casino and back home. Nice that we didn't have to unhook.
Monday, March 25 – Brrrrr ....it got dang cold last night. We woke to temperatures hovering around freezing. We are still in the South, aren't we? Looks like things are going to be a little chilly all week with highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's.
We are moving further East this morning to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. We are staying at the Silver Slipper Casino Campground, which is right on the Gulf of Mexico. We really like this campground for its close proximity to the beach. You are only about 100 feet from the beach with its “sugar-like” white sand.
All the sites are concrete with patios and concrete streets. There is some grass between the sites, but it is sandy, beach type grass The sites aren't huge but they are nicely spaced at angles, so you really aren't right next to your neighbor. We like it here.
Looking right. No spots to the left. Wonderful!
With the cool weather, the beach is deserted. Actually, we've been here three times and have never found the beach with more than a dozen sun worshipers. It's like your own semi-private beach.
The one negative this time at this campground is the insect hatch. We are on the edge of a wetlands and a small flying insect is present in the millions. They are especially present in the evening. They look like a mosquito but they don't bite. They love landing on the our white 5th wheel .....jeesh! Thank goodness they don't bite...LOL
All the brown dots you see are these pests flying around.
The moon sure has been giving us some gorgeous skies. It rises right over the Gulf. Stunning!
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!
We may have to try those casinos on our way across. What are the rates there? We now plan to leave here on Tuesday heading west.
ReplyDeleteWe are now in Indiana and it is definitely not spring yet, although I think it's in the air. We probably arrived in the midwest a week too soon but wanted to be here for spring break to see the grandkids. Safe travels to you two.
ReplyDeleteOn the road moving a bit more, travel safe and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful looking beach and nice and close to your rig.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the bugs - they would bug me for sure.
We've done very little casino camping -- a little. One time we got stuck in the mud. Gotta try those casinos who really value RV customers!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad those bug don't bite but they would still drive me crazy. One of the reasons I like the desert so much is the lack of bugs. But I do like staying at casinos that like RVers.
ReplyDeleteI've decided to break from usual routine and post here!! I kinda figured it out.
ReplyDeleteI really am not looking forward to returning east and having bugs again. It has been SO wonderful to go out any time and never have insects. No bugs hiking!
I really like that campground across from the beach. Beautiful beach! Too bad you hit a cool spell. Now, I want to see those feet with leg skin showing!
You certainly managed to capture that magnificent moon lit sky. Love it!
Travel safely to GA!

Can't stand the bugs but sure do like the view of that beach just across the road. Nice, nice place to be especially with such cold weather on your route north.
ReplyDeleteEven though those bugs don't bite, be careful that the don't gang up and carry one of you off.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Louisiana visiting relatives a few years back we drove over to Coushatta. Boy, did we ever hit the right day. On Tuesday's the lunch buffet (just as good as the nights) for around 6.00 including non-alcoholic beverages. This is for seniors (that's us) with players cards. We were in line when we found out. Oops no players card. Cashier said - not an issue and she swiped one she had at the register. What a great deal.
ReplyDeleteNever been to the MS Casino. I sure will remember about it because if we get done this gate guard job by May we will be visiting friends over that way before heading north.
Yuk on the bugs. Pretty soon that area will be swamped with those nasty love bugs that get smashed all over the windshield.
Love, love your sunset pictures! What great places to park along the Gulf Coast! Those bugs look as annoying as 'no seeums.' Are you stopping at Rainbow Plantation in Summerdale on your way east? We pull in there on Wednesday. Would love to do lupper if our paths cross.
ReplyDeleteIs there easy access to this park in MS from I-10? I'm looking for a park to stay one night as I journey from Okefenokee to Scott, LA, in about two weeks.
ReplyDeleteBoth of those parks look nice. Casinos are smart to cater to RVers and some of them have really nice parks.
ReplyDeleteGreat to get a campground right at the beach. I miss walking in that white white sand, but I sure don't miss the bugs. We were just at Roper Lake State Park (Safford, Az.) near the lake and there were lots of flying non-biting bugs around there too. Ah well, the good and bad of nature, right?

What a great spot to have such a lovely beach right across the street. Glad those bugs look nastier than they are. That could spoil a good campground as the biting bugs always seem to find me. Love those full moon photos.
ReplyDeleteWe're at Buccaneer SP, down the road a bit from where you stayed ... the gnats look like they are going to be a problem. Hoping the screen shelter will allow us to enjoy at least some outside time while we're here.
