August 31 – September 2 - We pulled out this morning from our summer place and headed West.
First stop, Tipton, Indiana.
We have friends in Tipton that have invited us to spend a couple days on their farm. We became friends with Jan and Barry the last couple of winters in Mission, TX. They are Winter Texans spending summers in Indiana and winters in Texas. Since we won't be wintering in Texas this year, we took them up on their offer and headed their way.
For those of you traveling through Ohio watch for the Highway Patrol. They are everywhere. We saw three with cars pulled over in the matter of about two miles. Guess Ohio has to raise income some way.....Jeesh!
Since we had the wheels on the 5th wheel removed during our bearing service appointment, Paul stopped at a rest area to check the torque on the wheel lugs. Sure enough most of the lug nuts tightened up with the torque wrench. This is something we've never done before. So check those lug nuts if you've had your wheels removed recently!
We had a very easy drive today traveling the Lincoln Highway (US 30) instead of I-70. We will be taking I-70 when we leave here traveling through Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and into Utah.
WOW! What a nice set-up the Juday's have. Full hookup site with 30 amp electric and a concrete pad. Corn and soybean fields as far as the eye can see. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises and dark night skies. Isn't Mooch docking awesome!
Point of Interest: The farmers receive $12-15,000/year tax free for each windmill.
To make us feel even more indebted to them, they fed us dinner. Our plans are to stay through the Labor day weekend, but they may have to force us to leave!
Paul, Barry and Bella solving the world's problems.
Happy Labor Day to y'all!
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!
What beautiful farm country. I'm a Hoosier and sure did love looking at those fields today in your post. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your visit and safe travels.
Glad to see you weren't one of the victims of smokey the bear.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great mooch docking site;)
ReplyDeletenice spot - our next stop will likely be in Indiana and I don't think it will be as nice...
ReplyDeletewhat a great start to your journey. . .may the awesomeness continue!
ReplyDeleteWe need more friends like that. Free camping with hook-ups is always good. Have a safe trip.
ReplyDeleteWhat great friends you have! That is a Woodall's ***** rated campsite!
ReplyDeleteOn the road again - Yes!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful day, enjoy your travels
Sue
I can sense your excitement to be back on the road again. What a great place to stay for the first stop on your journey.
ReplyDeleteSure hope Paul and Berry made some progress in solving the world's problems. Lawn chairs in the driveway are reminiscent of my midwest upbringing.
For what it's worth, my Paul torques the lug nuts multiple times after they have been off. In fact, our trailer says to do it at 10 miles, 25 miles, and 50 miles and then keep doing it until they don't tighten anymore :)
ReplyDeleteGee, what a great site you have!!! Sure hope you took notes. Haha!!!
ReplyDeleteTravel safely!! So excited that you are on your way! Wahoo!!
We took 70, also, so you can check out a few of our stops.
You have the best of both worlds and I'm sure you realize it. You just follow the sun and still have lots of time to spend with family. Hoping to see you folks in a few months!
ReplyDeleteAfter our trouble with wheels, we torque at stops for a couple of days each time we stop. Or check anyways.
ReplyDeleteSo, about those windmills - how does one go about getting one of those suckers - or even a dozen!!
ReplyDeleteSure is a nice looking RV site you have there.
That's a mighty nice spot for camping!!
ReplyDeleteNever heard that expression before - mooch docking. Love it!
ReplyDeleteJust love visiting with friends and farm country enjoy your visit and travel safe!
ReplyDeleteWith all the work you did on the house and flowerbeds, you are going to be greeted by some lovely sights when you return home.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to meeting up with you (if possible) down the road.
Safe travels.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice place to stop, visit and rest a spell during the Labor Day weekend. Sure beats the crowded campgrounds. Your friends sure have a beautiful place!! I think they would have to run us off! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou two travel safely!!
Happy and safe travels to you both!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would want to leave that beautiful place either.
