NEW TIRES AND EXTREME HEAT!

Monday, October 14 – It's been VERY HOT here in the Rio Grande Valley. High in the upper 90's everyday and only cooling off to about 80* at night. That's way too hot. Our AC has been running ALL day and even comes on periodically at night. It's pretty uncomfortable to sit outside even in the shade, which we normally enjoy doing. To make matters worse the humidity level is sky high....in the 90% range. We can understand why people wait until November to begin arriving in the Valley.

We're into one of those “When was the last time we had any real rain” cycles. We don't believe we've been rained on since our stay in Moab back in early September. That's fine for Paul – he hates rain – but when it's this hot, an all day rain might be enjoyable.

Last Thursday, Paul took his truck to Discount Tire to have the tires rotated. While there he decided to shop for new tires for the 5th wheel. He had Michelin LT M/S2 235/85R16 tires installed on the RV. They are LT (light truck) instead of ST (special trailer) tires. They are load range E 10 ply radial tires with a manufacture date of 3713 (37th week of 2013). Everything matches the trailer tire except they are built in America for trucks instead of tires built in China for trailers. We'll see how they wear. Hopefully, this will solve our tire issues.

Bella isn't crazy about anywhere we stop that doesn't have grass. There is really no grass here to speak of in Leisure Valley, so she has to find other ways to entertain herself. The other day she discovered this little gem.

Bella

She also has decided she wanted to find a new bed to sleep in. Why she picked this place is beyond our understanding.

Bella

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!

  2. I bet that lightened the pocket book. I know it did mine when I replaced all the tires on our rig.

  3. Sure hope the new tires solve your tire issues. Did the tire dealer have any idea why you had that strange wearing on that one tire?

Bella looks very comfortable in her new spot. She looks hidden, squished, and warm! A cat's dream location!

I thought of you two this morning when I saw the national weather map. Your corner of TX showed 90's! Hope it cools some for you real soon!!

  4. We've had our fill of new tires. Last year we had new tires on the motorhome and both of our vehicles. Not fun at all. It's way too hot where you are at for us .... way, way too hot.

  5. Wow, our weather is sure a lot nicer than yours. Mid 80's during the day and down into the 60's at night. Wonderful. Bella is such a neat cat. She looks all warm and cozy in her spot. We're going to need new shoes on the truck next year. Maybe if I start saving up now we'll be able to afford them.

  7. Years ago I gave up trying to guess why any of our cats picked the places they did for anything. I just laughed and took pictures.

  8. We found the humidity in south Texas quite uncomfortable too.
Good choice on trailer tires, they should be much more reliable for you.

  9. We arrived in the RGV at the end of Oct last year. November is still very hot!
Love Bella's new hiding spots. Sophie figured out if we don't latch our sock and underwear drawers she can pull them open, take everything out, and get into the pass through storage bin. After losing her in there twice now, we have learned to be sure the drawers are latched tight.

  10. I don't think I've ever seen a 99% humidity until I saw your photo - you may as well be sitting in a swimming pool.

Those tires are top of the line so they should do the trick - I sure hope so.

  11. Humidity is one of the reasons we left Indy. Bella is the typical cat! At least Noah also loves tight spaces....snug as a bug.

  12. I'll be interested to hear how those new tires work for you. Hubby has looked into changing ours to a 'truck' tire. Phx is 80-90 degrees with 16% humidity and nights cool into 60's. We only run the A/C during the middle of the day. So I think I'm glad we opted to hit AZ before TX.
