January 7, 2014 – Here in Houston, TX, we survived a balmy 22 degrees this morning.
Not bad compared to our daughter back in NE Ohio who experienced -9 (-31 windchill).
It is bitterly cold in most of the nation. We heard on the Today Show that every state but Hawaii had below freezing temperatures this morning.
Paul stored the water hose last night and filled the holding tanks with fresh water. We even used the notoriously inefficient RV furnace in order to get a little heat in our wet bay to avoid freezing pipes.
So we're fairly snug in our Cameo 5th wheel looking forward to a predicted high of 46 degrees this afternoon and highs in the 60's by Thursday.
Hope you survived the cold and will be enjoying warm temperatures in the near future.
Looking back a few days…We celebrated New Year’s Eve at the Elks Club. We shared the evening with several of our friends here in the campground.
Us in our New Year Eve attire.
Even though it is cold, we have our daily visitor. What a beauty.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y’all back real soon. Have a great day!
Someday we will be able to tell our grandchildren how we survived the winter of '14. Think the pioneers are laughing at us?
ReplyDeleteO.K. you win! It only got down a little below freezing here in Eugene. This morning it's already almost 50 degrees outside, so it's practically a heat wave!
ReplyDeleteWhere we are in California, it's nice. Where we aren't, in Washington state, it's been cold but not nearly as cold as the Midwest. They are supposed to get five inches of rain on Friday, though.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you survived the cold snap. Our furnace is works quite well, but it's so darned noisy that we can't stand it! We only got down into the mid 30's but it felt pretty cold with the wind. 80's again this week-end and boy am I glad.
ReplyDeleteNot too bad here in Southern California, 39 overnight and 74 during the day, the way it usually is at this time of year here. Guess we lucked out this year.
ReplyDeleteOur lowest here in Red Bay was 4. This morning it is now 27. We are having a heat wave.
ReplyDeleteThat's a little chilly but definitely better than Ohio! We were even at 43 degrees when we woke up in Ft. Myers! Our high yesterday was 55 with very strong brisk winds. Not fun! Today we have 52, wind and drizzle. I think we may have taken a wrong turn and we really aren't in FL!! Hope you warm soon!
ReplyDelete38 here at the Q and headed to 70:)
ReplyDeleteThe water in Emma's outside water dish was frozen solid two nights in a row. Uff-duh!
ReplyDeleteHere at Pilot Knob it's about 45 in the morning and 75 in the afternoon. Getting warmer each day now.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed coffee outside in the sun this morning!
ReplyDeleteWe're in Rockport TX and disconnected the water the night before as temps dropped into the 20's. It's finally warming up and I'm looking forward to the rain to stop. Fairer weather on the horizon....can't wait. BTW great header photo!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Beautiful picture of the cardinal. They're such a bright spot in the winter, aren't they? Here in Florida, we bottomed out at 30 degrees. Leaving the bathroom faucet dripping worked at that temperature. Looking forward to warmer temps this weekend...expecting that you'll get them first.
ReplyDeleteLeft NJ on the 2nd when it was around 9. Overnighted in Frederick. MD where it got down to 5. The overnighted outside Knoxville, TN and down to around 15 again. Then to Cullman, AL two days. First day lovely and in 50's. By night down to 14. Some things outside froze. COLD the 2nd day and night. Then a night in Baton Rouge, LA and down to 19 at night. Here in SW Louisiana we got to 40's today. Feeling much better. Fun, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWe had a low of 16 yesterday, but it will be near 70 in a few days:)
ReplyDeleteToo dang cold!!!!! I believe we dropped to 8 degrees Monday night with wind chill around -10. This is way out of league here in Georgia!! We just hunkered down and rode it out. Hopefully the temps are easing back into normal now!!!! YAY
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had a nice New Years celebration!!! Happy New Year to you both!!!
Swimming and golfing here in Palm Springs as the weather's been just about perfect. Sure hope our luck continues. We just have to worry about the occasional 'wind' day out here in the desert.
ReplyDeleteHope things warm up soon for you guys and that vortex thing goes back where it came from!
It actually isn't so cold in Washington where the kids are. I think it's cold because it's in the 30's/40's but compared to others, it's not so bad.
ReplyDeleteBeen in the 20s here in Tyler. If only we had a home :(. May go to our son's house in Oyster Creek for a couple of weeks. Not far from Houston, will call if we do.
ReplyDeleteWe had a couple of nights that went down to 32F, but that was it. With the windchill, it felt more like the teens though.
ReplyDeleteI heard rumor the sun may shine here on Sunday. We moved to St. George Island SP yesterday in the rain and today is very foggy. We may get to see the island before we have to leave on Monday. :)
ReplyDelete40 headed to 72 in Goodyear on that date.
