CULLEN SCULPTURE GARDEN

Sunday, February 2 - The Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden showcases art of 20th- and 21st-century. Isamu Noguchi created the garden in 1979. His plan was a modern approach to the traditional idea of a garden framed by concrete walls ranging in height. We are not modern-art lovers. We can stand there and stare at a modern art piece of hours and have no idea what the heck it is. Here are a few of the examples of the sculptures in the garden.

There are 25 pieces in the Garden. Nice but not the best sculpture garden we've seen. New Orleans still takes the trophy as far as we are concerned.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y’all back real soon. Have a great day!

  1. That red thing looks like something the grandchildren would enjoy. Climbing no, not looking at. Yup, I agree. What am I looking at???

  2. It certainly takes a different creative mind to understand many of the sculptures. My mind doesn't have this ability. But it is interesting to try to figure out exactly what the "artist" was trying to convey.

  3. Well....guess it's like anything else, something for everyone! But I gotta say, I stared and stared at the "large horse" and it still looks like a pile of black rubble LOL!!

  4. I can never figure out modern art either. I guess I just down have the 'eye' ... or the imagination.

  5. Those aren't my favorite sculptures either. I'm guessing that park paid a pretty price for them but it's not our thing either.

  6. Isn't that what modern art is supposed to be? In the eye of the beholder, I think. Not my favorite sculptures either, they are interesting.

  7. I have never been a fan of the modern art. When I ran the blacksmith shop there was a movement to the modern side. Bent pieces of metal with a title. They would sell for a bunch of money. I just couldn't follow that trend.

  8. I just don't get modern art - paintings, sculptures etc. I always think they are putting something over on us.

  9. I find many modern art pieces quite entertaining. I love to look at a piece and make my own titles or make up a story about what it is saying.

  10. Hmm, not sure about all this modern art, but still somebody made money doing it!

  11. I guess I don't have much of a creative mind as I find it difficult to understand modern art.
