WINE MAKING

Thursday, August 28 – If you read the blog regularly, you read that Paul decided to make some homemade wine. With wine making on mind, Paul decided to build a wine storage rack.  Now…where will that fit in the fifth wheel??? :-)

building wine rack

Paul uses his drill with a stirrer attached to add some flavoring to the grape juice.

Paul sterilized thirty wine bottles.

The next step is to siphon the wine from the carboy to the bottles without stirring up any sediment that has settled to the bottom of the carboy.

Slowly but surely the bottles are filled.

bottling wine

This automatic filler makes filling the bottles a snap!

Once all the wine has been bottled, Paul uses a corker to insert the corks in the bottles. This is a fun and rewarding procedure!

Labels are then attached and shrink tops are installed over the corks.

Then Paul inverted the bottles on his new wine rack he built for storage.

This Green Apple Riesling is actually ready for drinking immediately. We gave it a taste.....yummy!

UPDATE ON TRAVEL PLANS: Our intentions were to pull out of our summer home here in Ohio on September 9, but health issues have caused us to delay them slightly. Follow-up doctor appointments for Paul has caused us to push back departure into October.....dang!

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y’all back real soon. Have a great day!

  2. Hope the health issues are resolved quickly so Paul can get back to being a 'corker'.

  3. I made wine for over 30 years and when the house sold so did all of my equipment and storage space.
Our Favourite is the Green Apple Riesling, but with really no place to store 30 bottles anymore not feasible.
Hope all works out for Paul, we plan on heading out around Oct 20th for the southwest.

  5. Hope all is going to be fine with Paul. Thinking of you two:)

Paul, that wine and rack are great. Your wine looks so professional and the wine rack is just beautiful. There should be enough wine there for a few months at least!!!

  6. As with everyone, we are praying that it is not serious with Paul. The Green Apple sounds good.

  7. Oh, boy...Paul's wine-making process brings back fond memories of my dad who LOVED making wine. Many Septembers we would travel to North East, PA, to pick up grape juice. He had a nice 'stash' that he took with him when he moved into assisted living. Nice labels and great wine rack, Paul! Our prayers are with you both as you deal with the unexpected delay in your departure.

  8. When we had our house that is how we used to have wine. Being Canadian it was just too expensive for us to buy it at the store so Kevin made it just like Paul is doing there and it tasted pretty darn good too. We didn't have an nice fancy wine rack like yours though, lol. Paul did a great job on both the wine and the rack.

Hoping that the health issue isn't anything serious and that you can be on the road as soon as you can.

  9. Doctors seem to be getting in the way of lots of our plans lately. Do you suppose we might be getting old?

  11. I am sure that you are pleased that you are with all your familiar physicians. Is Paul trying to act like John? Our prayers go with you. You can count on us.

  12. All that wine ought to cure what ails him. ;)

  13. Hmm, could those health issues be related to too much wine LOL. In all seriousness, hope all is well. Our tentative plans are to spend the month of November on Galveston Island. Let me know if you'll be in Houston and maybe we can meet up for some wine tasting :-)

  15. That's quite the wine holder Paul built. I'm wondering too how it's going to fit in the RV!

All the best to Paul re his medical issues.

  17. Great title:) We do not make any, but we sure like to make it disappear! I trust the wine making will help make the medical issues fade even faster:)

  18. I hope the medical issue is nothing serious and just a minor delay in your Ohio departure.

  19. We like wine but we have never gone this far to make our own. It must be rewarding after a few days of making and corking them.
It's better that you saw the doctor now than when you are on the road. We just hope its just nothing to worry about.
