FLORIDA TO LOUISIANA

Tuesday, October 27 – We continued our Westward travel this morning and have arrived in Slidell, LA. We traveled off and on in rain all morning.

We were surprised traveling I-10 across the Florida Panhandle of all the hills. We had the misconception that all of Florida was FLAT. Other than the rain it was a good and uneventful trip.

We did see a rainbow in all the rain.

We are at the Slidell Elks Lodge. The Lodge sits way down Elks Lane, a long country road off the highway. It feels like we are in the middle of nowhere. It has a park-like setting.

The sites are gravel right off the Lodge parking lot. We have 50 amp electric and water. They do have a dump station. There is a full-time host on the premises that checked us in and collects the $15 fee. We are the only ones here. We are here for one night.

  3. It's good to hear that you moved along without the storm causing havoc on your way. You made your destination and there was even room for you. Safe travels the rest of the way.

  4. When traveling that way, a good place to overnight is the Camping World in Hammond. Great wide concrete sites with water and electric. And it's free. Just pull in and plug up.

  5. One of our favorite lodges to stay at. Host must be fairly new, but we haven't been there in a couple years. Enjoy your time there.

  6. Good to hear you arrived safely after such a rainy travel day...it was a great day for ducks! Nice campsite...at least the water drains off well here in the south. Looks like it will be clear sailing today. Hopefully, you'll arrive and get settled in Houston before the rain on Saturday. Safe travels!

  7. Happy to hear you are safe with all those storms out that way. You're making good time getting to Texas but then again the 1st is coming up quickly isn't it.

  8. Too bad the storm dampened your travels. And from someone who rode bikes in the Panhandle we can attest to the fact that it's hilly!
We used to camp at Grayton Beach State Park and it was a mile walk along the beach to get to Seaside. Loved that area! Sorry your weather wasn't better to enjoy it.
