TWO DAYS…TWO STATES

Friday, April 1 – We pulled out of the Houston Elks RV Park this morning after rush hour.

Gorgeous sky to send us off on our journey.

We usually hit the road early in the morning, but we had to go right through the city so we thought it best to wait for the traffic to thin out. By 9:30, traffic had thinned out a bit. We headed north on T-59/I-69 toward Texarkana, TX. Hard to believe we drove all day and are still in Texas. If we were driving west, it would have been several days before leaving Texas.....Jeesh!

Unfortunately, we spent the most part of the day driving in light rain. Occasionally, the rain came down pretty hard, but it didn't seem to affect our progress. We sent the entire day on T-59 which is a nice divided road but not an interstate. It will eventually become Interstate 69 in the distant future.

We stayed at the Texarkana RV Park right on T-59. It is a Passport America park, so we enjoy a 50% discount. Our FHU site cost us $20/night. Fortunately, the park is not crowded because the sights are fairly narrow. It would certainly be crowded if full. The sites are gravel with a small concrete patio. The street is concrete. The electric, water, and sewer are nicely located. We chose not to unhook and had plenty of room length-wise to be off the street at both ends of our sight. The streets are very narrow. The campground is okay for a night or two. We certainly wouldn't want to pay full price at $40/night!

This guy pulled in at about 8:30. It was pitch black. Look what he is towing.Texarkana RV Park

Saturday, April 2 – We got an early start this morning getting on the road soon after 7 a.m. We had another six hour day driving from Texarkana, TX, to Blytheville, AR. It was an uneventful drive. No rain today, just sunshine. We arrived at the Grizzly Campground just after 1 p.m.

The campground appears to be predominately full-time residents. There are three pull-thru sites, and the rest are back-ins. The back-in sites are on grass with a nice gravel parking area in front. They are fairly spaced. There is little or no landscaping. The pull-thrus are very closely spaced. Obviously, they are intended for short over-night stays. Since we did not want to unhook and are only here for one night, we decided to take one of the pull-thru sites. Hopefully, no one will pull in next to us. The good news is the sites are only $14.00/night, PPA, for a 50 amp FHU site.

  2. Good to see you had two successful days on the road. But...did we miss something? Are you heading to Ohio or are you making a trip to Paul's brother's like you sometimes do?

  4. Safe travels as you continue to head north. The good thing is most parks start accepting PPA again in April. We discovered those in Arizona black out stays when we were moving in March.

  5. Safe travels ... it really does take forever to get out of TX when you are driving west ;-)

  6. We really don't care too much what a campground looks like for an overnight stop as long as the price is right. Be safe.

  8. We considered going that route last week (but the Natchez Trace kept calling).... hope you're not in those wild winds now! We're in SE Ohio and it was 29 degrees this morning... and VERY windy! Travel safe and enjoy the spring scenery as you travel north!

  10. Sounds like two good travel days...especially in light of it being a Friday AND April 1. I-75 was backed up here in Florida for 10-15 miles heading north either stopped or going 5-10 mph. The number of RVs was mind-boggling and the number of cars with out-of-state licenses numerous! God-speed as your continue on your journey home. Hopefully, the temperate temps will be the norm in Ohio soon! We're a month behind you arriving in Ohio's Amish country in early May. Gotta travel north by way of Summerdale to pick up the metal chock I didn't pick up from behind the wheel last fall. As Paul always tells me, what I don't do with my brain I have to do with my feet (or in this case our wheels)! hahaha
