Thursday, February 2 – We traveled from Yuma, AZ, the short distance to Algodones, MX, this morning. We wanted to find the dentist office where we have an appointment tomorrow to get our teeth cleaned. We also planned to do a little sightseeing and window shopping.
We have been to Mexico border cites numerous times especially Los Algodones and Nuevo Progresso (across the border in South Texas). We found the street merchants here in Algodones a little more aggressive than those in Progresso and prices a little higher. It's still a fun experience.
The Purple Store is our go-to store for medicine and liquor.
The following photos are just a glimpse of Los Algodones, MX.
They have some beautiful patio areas to enjoy food and drink.
We did purchase a couple gifts, and Paul got a couple prescriptions filled. The margaritas were big and great too!
We spent about three hours strolling around town before we decided it was time to get in line for the trip across the border to re-enter the U.S. This is another difference between the two Mexican cities. It takes about 10-15 minutes to cross at Nuevo Progresso. We spent over an hour waiting in line today at Los Algodones. This was the case the last two times we crossed here in the past. Something we can't figure out.
Can you see the end of the line waaaaay down the street? That is where we had to start.
We will tell you about our dentist experience in the next post.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y’all back real soon. Have a great day!
Have fun wandering around.
ReplyDeleteWe were over there 3 times in December and no line ups at all coming back, and we usually returned before noon as well.
Some day we'll have to get you down into the real Mexico. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures of the town.
ReplyDeleteBetween the annoying the merchants and the line to return, you won't see John there anytime soon:) Do you ever have the medication checked to make sure it is truly the correct dose and the right product? You read about the medication in some areas not up to what it should be.
ReplyDeleteWe've never been there. Once again, the colors really stand out. So pretty!! Looking forward to hearing about your dental experience.
ReplyDeleteLos Algodones is so colorful! What a vibrant place to visit, but I'm not I'd want to live there. I love the tranquility of mountains and rural areas. :-) Is this the dentist where you get free margaritas with your cleaning?
ReplyDeleteWe have never crossed the boarder anywhere but south of Deming, NM. Didn't feel right to me, didn't stay very long.
ReplyDeleteThe few times we have crossed over, I enjoyed all the colorful stores and the stuff they sell.
ReplyDeleteWe've been lucky enough to have some short, short lines. Then, we've also had some rather long ones.
ReplyDeleteThat's our pharmacy too, you can tell by the bags
