NOTHING BETTER THAN FAMILY TIME

Saturday, September 11 – We are headed to Carrie's house (youngest daughter) to watch some football. She travels in her job with Exxon but flies home most weekends. So for her, weekends are busy, busy, busy! She has to stuff most of her “friends time” into a very short weekend. Our other daughter, Kelly, will be there....after her volleyball tournament this morning.

After watching Ohio State beat Miami (We are former Ohioans.), we headed out to Best Buy to help Carrie but a new computer. She decided on an HP and now Marsha can get it all set-up and all her programs transferred before we leave the Houston area on the 20^th.

We then headed to their “hang-out”.....Rebels. This was a fantastic TEXAN Honky Tonk! Man could these kids do the Texas Two Step. Paul really wants to learn this dance but these guys shamed him into getting off the dance floor. Guess we'll have to find an “old fogie” place to practice.

Sunday, September, 12 - The girls came over to watch pro-football. Direct TV was having free NFL Channel for week #1 of the season. Probably the only Cleveland Browns game we'll get to see. By the looks of them, we won't be missing much.

Marsha worked some on Carrie's computer set-up, and then we decided to go out for dinner before the girls headed home.

Monday, September, 13 – Paul tore out the dead refrigerator this morning.

He got the maintenance man, Duane,  here in the park to help him pass it out the emergency window behind the driver's seat and into his pick-up truck. Duane is going to tear it apart for the recyclables. The tearing out went really well, and the idea to pass it out the emergency window made a difficult problem, of how to get it out, a very simple procedure.....worth remembering if you ever have to get a big object in or out of your MH. Paul got the idea off the Tiffin RV Network forum page. That's the way they remove things at the factory repair shop.......cool!

We spent the rest of the day investigating refrigerators. Using the cooler is getting old. We need to buy a big bag of ice each day just to keep a few things cold and have ice for drinks.

Tuesday, September 14 – Doctor day for Paul. Paul’s appointment was scheduled for 9:45…the optimum word his is scheduled. He finally got to see the doctor an hour later. He got an excellent report. Doctor Wimberly said his back is super and he can do whatever he wants to do. Paul was concerned that when we go to work at the Balloon Fiesta, he wouldn’t be allowed to take a balloon ride. The doctor said, “Go for it!” Great news.

While Paul was at the doctor, Marsha washed the clothes, scrubbed all the tile floor, attended an hour Bible study at the campground, and did her exercises.

We went to Kelly’s volleyball game. She really has a wonderful group of girls.

Can you tell how the game was going?

Well, you probably guess right…not so good. There is always next time.

One BIG difference we see here in Texas compared to Ohio is that they have cheerleaders at each varsity game. The mascot also shows up. Mayde Creek has a great looking mascot. We didn’t get a close up, but you can see from the picture below, it even has the feet of a ram…LOL

LOUISIANNA HIGHWAY DOES IT AGAIN

Thursday, September 9 – Paul should have known not to complain about the Louisiana highways being so bumpy.....some kind of gremlin got us again. Our refrigerator is on the blink. Called a repairman today to get his opinion on necessary repairs.

It seems every time we drive those “nice” Louisiana interstates something goes on the blink. The first time a sensor on the generator broke. The second time our air conditioner went on the fritz. Now the dreaded “no co” code on our beeping Norcold Refrigerator.......YIKES!!! It's tough and getting EXPENSIVE to be a gypsy!

Anyway, after fighting the traffic and construction around Houston, we arrived safely in Brookshire, TX at the Houston West RV Park. We will be here 10 days. The owner is a young girl named Allyson. She is very nice. The bathrooms are very clean Their is a free brunch on Saturday morning that the hostess invited us to. Paul has a six month post surgery check-up with his doctor and we will be visiting with our two daughters.

We are in site #2 but moving right next door tomorrow morning to site #1. Site 1 has a nice tree, picnic table, brick walk. We like the tree and shade for Bella.

Friday, September 10 – We're waiting for the refrigerator repairman to call us back. If he wasn't so highly recommended, I would look elsewhere for help. I have to keep reminding myself why these small businessmen work for themselves and not for someone else.....it's because they are too darn undependable!

Well, I guess we’ve decided to replace our Norcold (or is that Nevercold) refrigerator with a residential refrigerator.  We have more research to do on the subject but it just didn’t make since to remain with Norcold after reading all the negative reports.  We’ll update this decision in a later blog.

Our daughter, Kelly, is a volleyball coach at her high school. She coaches one of the Freshman teams and assists the Varsity coach. We went to her game tonight. Even though they did not win, both teams played their hearts out.

Both of us coached high school kids, so we know what Kelly is going through. Maybe softball season will be a bit less stressful…NOT!

MOVING ON TOWARDS TEXAS

Tuesday, September 7 - After 8-days at the beach, we pulled out of the Elks Lodge and headed West. The Gulf was rather calm on our last day. Many of the holiday crowd had gone home. It was a beautiful day.

Our intentions were to stop in Livingston, LA, but we decided to continue on to Coushatta Casino Campground in Kinder, LA. We were here in June of this year as we were heading East, (Past blog about Coushatta). We enjoyed the campground and the casino, so decided to stop here for a few days. We can only think of one small negative about this campground…20 miles off I10. The road in is bumpy but the road back to I10 is smooth…go figure! It is so clean, clubhouse is great, laundry room and restroom excellent, sites large, casino shuttle picks up at your site, just a great place.

We averaged 9.5 miles per gallon today. Our MPG have definitely improved since our servicing at the Freightliner Center in October.

Man-O-Man is I-10 a bumpy mess all across Louisiana westbound until you pass Lafayette. Its a constant bump, bump at every expansion joint. Darn near rattles our house to pieces. I hate that!!! That road should lose it's Interstate rating and be downgraded to a secondary road. I guess Louisiana is spending their tax money on Katrina rebuild rather than Interstate Highways......Oh well, end of rant!

We visited the casino in the evening. NOT such a good night! Marsha was the BIG loser. Now remember…losing $10 to us is BIG. So you now you can guess how much she might have lost. We had a good time in spite of her poor gambling skills.
