Friday, May 25 – We drove and walked around Old Town Eureka this morning on a cool and rainy day. The old buildings certainly have some interesting architecture. It's nice to see so many have been saved, restored, and put to good use. We stopped in one old building that is now a coffee house and internet cafe'. A perfect fit for a building built in the early 1900's.
The Carson Manson…now a private club.
There are numerous murals painted on the sides of building scattered throughout the area. We always enjoy seeing these murals and sharing them with our readers.
TRIBUTE TO ARCHITECTURE AND PERFORMING ARTS
We drove out to Woody Island to see the Sea Captain statue and look at some of the fishing boats. It's fun to walk along the docks and talk to all the seamen and pirates.....RRRRR!!!
There is a Victorian House driving tour. It was raining. but we did most of the drive any way. Here are just a few of the many beautiful Victorian Homes.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!
Just love the architecture and the paint schemes. Too bad they don't make home with personalities any more.
ReplyDeleteI am a sucker for old, restored homes. If we were not going to full time, I think we would buy one. Maybe when we can't travel anymore? Who knows!
ReplyDeleteThese houses are so beautiful - sort of like older cars. They actually are distinctive instead of blending like we see in today's houses and cars.
ReplyDeleteThe Carson Mansion is sure the big draw in Eureka. We haven't spent enough time in that area. Good Lord, when are we ever going to have enough time to see everything in this country? Now that Suzy is regaining her walking ability, we'll be able to do a better job of seeing things when we go out!
ReplyDeleteWe've never spent any time in Eureka but just drove through. It sounds like we missed a bunch.
ReplyDeleteWhat great sights! I would love a day of photography there. Hope you have a fun weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love old buildings. In fact, our home back in NJ was built in 1850. But NOTHING like those old Victorians. Those pictures remind me of Cape May, NJ, not far from "home".
ReplyDeleteVictorians exude such charm; but I have to say that the Alley Cats stole my heart ... I love searching out and photographing murals; spent a great afternoon in Seward, Alaska a couple of years ago finding most of the ones that were listed on the mural society's website.
ReplyDeleteThat's more of Eureka than I have seen before. Had no idea they had so many interesting buildings. Love the murals...we always enjoy looking for murals. I sure enjoyed your photos.
ReplyDeleteNice homes, but I sure would not want to be the one to paint them:)
ReplyDeleteGreat old homes... love the designs. Another great area to tour!
ReplyDeleteEureka is right! Your photos brought back a lot of great memories of our visits to this little town. That Carson Mansion is amazing.
ReplyDeleteOh such gorgeous homes, beautifully and obviously lovingly restored.
ReplyDeleteThe building murals have always been a favorite of mine as we travel.
