Wednesday, January 30 – We planned on meeting full-timer RV friends, Jan and Dave, on Monday for lunch. We haven't met up with these two for a couple of years.
Our intended meeting spot was the Egg & I restaurant in Mission. Well, we never made it! As we were driving along Expressway 83, something blew-out our driver-side door window.
We heard a very loud explosion, and the next thing we knew there was a hole in the safety glass side window. We had pretty many “safety glass pebbles” scattered over us and on the inside of the truck.
After determining we were both okay, Paul pulled off the highway into a nearby parking lot. Not knowing what hit us (was it a stone or a shot from a gun???), we decided it best to call the police and file a report. The police arrived within ten minutes and took the report.
Paul removed as much glass as he could at the side of the road, and we drove to a car wash to use the vacuum to cleanup the mess.
We called our insurance company, and they arranged to have the glass replaced immediately. We had an appointment at Safelite Auto Glass and had the window replaced within three hours of the incident. Pretty good service. The best news was that we have zero deductible on glass. The window is like new. It didn't cost us anything but a few gray hairs and a couple hours of our time. The worst part is we missed lunch with our friends.
When we got home, we actually found glass back in the truck bed. That was one big explosion.
Who knows what hit us.....it was most likely a stone thrown up by a truck....but, if Paul made someone angry out there, forgive him and holster the gun....PLEASE! LOL
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!
Whew...I'm very glad to hear that the two of you are safe. What a freak accident!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure glad to hear that you're both alright after that scary blast! Good thing for safety auto glass, eh? No telling what caused it, but just happy there was no damage to either one of you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a frightening experience! Glad to hear the two of you are safe.
ReplyDeleteOMG thankfully you are both ok...that is scary...maybe temperature related?? We have tempered glass in our coach door slider both sides..I went to come in in Nov and one side just blew up before I even touched it..blew to smithereens good thing I had my sun glasses on as a piece of it hit the lense...glad you are both ok...Rick has since replaced ours with plexi..altho I don't like it as well as the nice clean glass..
ReplyDeleteMany years ago that happened to us, but it was the front windshield and I have 4 of the kids in the car. We thought that it was something falling from a plane. Scary!
ReplyDeleteHonest, it wasn't us ;-) Glad that there was no damage to life and limb; that's one scary freaky thing to have happened.
ReplyDeleteYour in Texas, right? Who knows?
ReplyDeleteSure glad you're both o.k. and the only damage was to the window. Pretty good service to have it replaced in just 3 hours too.
Really scary, glad that both of you were all right!
ReplyDeleteSure glad the Lord was watching over our dear friends today and that you're okay. Love that zero deductible.
ReplyDeleteWe have zero deductible on our glass too. Thank goodness because we've used that a few times! You were really lucky today. Glad neither of you got hurt.
ReplyDeleteOh my, what a really, really scary experience! Grateful to hear you're okay and the truck has been repaired. Hard to believe a stone could hit the side window of the truck with such force to cause the explosion.
ReplyDeleteI, too, wonder if it was temp. related. We've had a few wicked hot days.
ReplyDeleteLast year a stone hit our windshield and we are not so fortunate to have glass coverage. New windshield was over 350. TWO weeks later, another stone hit and another crack. It's still there.
Sure glad neither of you were hurt.
That happened to us in our motorhome a few years ago going through Goodyear, AZ. The long window over our couch. No one was hurt. Joe pulled over and we too called the police and filed a report. He figured a truck going the opposite direction through a rock from his tires. But we never found anything but a lot of glass. I was sitting on the couch but the Lord protected me from it all. We had $100 deductable and a small company in Hemet came to the Indian Waters Where we were staying and replaced the window.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are OK and that the glass got fixed PDQ! Safe travels
ReplyDeleteWhat a scary experience! So glad you are safe and that you were able to have great glass service to get it fixed so quickly.
ReplyDeleteWOW Glad to hear you are alright. You didn't find any bullet holes in your truck? Call Abby from NCIS she'll find out what it was....lol
ReplyDeleteWOW glad you guys are ok. I would have had to stop at Walmart and get new pants.
ReplyDeleteWow, that would have been scary! Should it have been a stone/rock or gunshot you were lucky that it didn't hit either of you. So glad that you are both OK and that you were able to get it fixed so quickly.

my goodness! glad that the two of you are okay..scary stuff that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteGlad you two are ok could have been bad.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it just give you heart failure when a window explodes like that? Eek!
ReplyDeleteYou are blessed! What a fright...geesh
ReplyDeleteThat was Freaky! What the heck? Glad you're ok.
ReplyDeleteWow! Scary! So glad you are OK. Let us know if you find a bullet embedded somewhere.
ReplyDeleteVery scary. Glad to hear you are both ok.
ReplyDeleteScary! Glad no one was hurt and the insurance handled it with zero deductible. We had that happen to our front window one time but we were inside a Walmart and came back to the car to find the window shattered. It turned out to be a lawn guy that flicked something into the window. Fortunately, he was honest enough to admit what he did, and gave us cash for the repairs.
