WE SAW CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK…SORT OF

Monday, September 9 – This is what we woke up to Monday morning.

rain

With NOA predicting a 70% chance of rain and possible heavy thunderstorms (They call it MONSOONAL MOISTURE), we decided to delay our hikes and instead drive through Canyonlands NP. Utah has been getting hit pretty severely with thunderstorms lately, and we don't want to experience one of those flash floods.

Didn't get to see much in Canyonlands. It's been raining pretty good here. Almost a half inch of rain has fallen today according to Paul's rain gauge. That's enough! This area of Utah only averages 9" per year and less than an inch average in September. Rain, Rain go away!

In case you have never been to Canyonlands when it is raining, here is what it looks like.

So much rain so fast, there were little water falls every where.water falls

The Colorado River was picking up speed…fast!colarodo river

We saw this for about 5 seconds, then it was gone.

We need to get moving on our hikes. We've already extended our stay in Moab a week and changed travel plans.  Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y'all back real soon. Have a great day!

  1. I'm sorry but I had to laugh at your comment about visit Canyonlands in the rain. I can't believe that was your view. One of our favorite hikes was there and made a huge loop through the Needles. I am so sorry about your terrible weather after all that travel and planning. It MUST improve:)

  5. As disappointing as it is to sightsee in the rain, there's a certain beauty, too...particularly that picture right after the Canyonlands sign.

  6. Canyonlands is a wonderful national park, that is, when it's not raining. Now you have to watch out for flash (not no flash) floods. I'm sorry to hear about the rain!

  7. OK. You are stuck in one place. At least it's a beautiful place. But that place is NOT where your map pin is. :)

  8. At least you are there, just like Rv'ers plans, written in Jello.
Looks like you will be experiencing some interesting weather there, soon be sunning and all will be wonderful.

  12. Too bad! We were there in May and June and had to contend with afternoon thunderstorms but that sounds unusual for September. Hope today is better.

  13. Too bad about the rain - still beautiful scenery though. Hope you get some blue skies for hiking.

  14. Sorry about the rain. One storm passed over us Sunday and we had flash flood warning. The stream's height increased only about 5" though, so someone got rain.

  17. Hoping for clear weather for you! The waterfalls are lovely and remind me of what Sedona looks like during her rainstorms.
