MOVING RIGHT ALONG!!!

Friday, May 16 - We've reached the middle of May and the home remodeling project is right on schedule. Paul has completed the drywall, installed the window casings, finished the “killer” task of screwing down the backer board for the floor tile (over 800 screws), finished electrical installations inside and out and installed our new ceiling. Marsha was a big help with the ceiling. Couldn’t have completed it without her or so she thinks.

Kelly helped stain the 30+ boards for the ceiling.staining ceiling

Marsha got the lovely job of sanding the boards between varnish coats.

With future-son-in-law, Dave’s help, we will install the floor tile this Saturday, May 17. Then it will be ready for grout on Sunday or Monday, and after three-days curing, Paul can begin re-installing the kitchen cabinets. With that job finished, only the counter tops remain and that is a job Paul is NOT going to tackle. We've received price estimates from three contractors and decided on a solid surface counter from a local contractor. That's pictures for the next blog, so check back around the end of May when things should be wrapping up.

Marsha and Kelly are doing well with the wedding planning. The invitations have been mailed, and Marsha is ready to mail the wedding shower announcements soon. Kelly sent out two types of RSVP cards. For those that are tech savvy, she has asked them to RSVP via her wedding website. For those not so into computers, they received the paper RSVP. If you are interested in taking a peek at her website, just click here. Of course, Kelly is getting excited with 64 days to go until the wedding.

Marsha has also been busy with some gardening, one of her favorite past times that she really missed during our full-time years. With Memorial Day next weekend, that's frost-safe time in NE Ohio, she'll be done planting flowers and ready to put in the garden.

We also have plans for a birding area in the back corner of the house. Another reason to check back and see how things are moving along.

This is the area we are going to convert to the birding area….hopefully!

Shoeless Joe wrote in his blog the other day about how his birds were “flying pigs.” I commented that our finches are eating us out of house and home.

Once we have the birding center set up, these guys will not receive an invitation!

Bella just sits and takes it all in.

It won't be that long until we're wrapping things up and getting ready to head South for the winter, and it isn't even summer yet :-). Bella was sitting on the trailer steps the other day dreaming of new adventures! The kitty must have hitch itch.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y’all back real soon. Have a great day!

  1. Wow, you guys make me tired just reading your blog. Looks like it's all coming together nicely. I also like the way Bella has taken over the splash guard as her private nesting place.

  2. I wondered how your home improvement projects were coming. I love, love the ceiling. What a lot of work you have tackled. It's great that you have help around there. I can see where the finches eat you out of house and home. We just added deer food to our deer feeder. Last year they ate us out of house and home but we haven't had any takers so far this year.

  3. I agree with John about being tired just reading this post! Boy, you two are working machines. Paul does sleep, right!? That ceiling is absolutely gorgeous! I love the design. Can't wait to see it in person.

Bella will love a birding center. Her neck will have a real crick with all the head turning needed to keep track of all the action. I guess Bella is tired of all this mess in the house and wants to leave where it is quiet! Smart lady:)

Glad to hear wedding plans are moving along:)

  6. Once the renos are done at home Paul is going to be hanging up his shingle as a Renovator. Looking Good.
Glad to hear the wedding planning is also going well.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

  7. Wow, your renovations are grand and I love the ceiling...it just wears me out reading all the work you guys have put in. Paul sure is great with all his work and knowledge of the how to's.

  11. Nice job on the ceiling. Guess I'm out of touch. Never heard of a wedding website. Great idea!

  12. A labor of love would be stretching it, I'm sure...but I'm also sure you LOVE the ceiling! It is beautiful! Love all your birds, too! I'm not sure frost free after Memorial Day will be the rule this year considering the snow that was falling in Chicago today. I hope so, though, so you can give your green thumb a workout, Marsha!

  13. Nothing I like more than looking at pictures of someone else's renovation project. I just wonder how Paul manages to make his workplace look so clean while he's working.

The ceiling looks fantastic and the boards sure saved a lot of frustration with taping and sanding drywall.

I don't envy whoever has to lay and grout those tiles - that's backbreaking work.

  14. You'll be good and ready for a winter vacation this year!

Beautiful ceiling! Glad I get to enjoy it without having to make it.

  15. I cannot believe you two! The projects you two have completed in the short time you have been home are amazing. Your ceiling work is wonderful Paul. I can't wait to see your birding area. When we lived in Sedona we have a large bird and butterfly garden that we could sit and look out on from our bedroom.

  16. When we were building homes, we had a ceiling like that put in and loved it! I wanted to live there, but it sold quickly. You two are really moving right along. Everything is going to be beautiful. And planning a wedding at the same time....geeshhhh....you must be praying a lot for it to be turning out so nice.

  19. The ceiling looks great. You guys are mean machines working too hard but it is a labor of love that you will get to be proud of and enjoy through the years.
Now I love the idea of a bird center! For even now now you do look like you have an aviary.
I can't believe you are thinking of winter now !

  20. That ceiling looks great; I am sure it was worth the aching backs ... after the fact.

The wedding site looks great ... and I love the idea of electronic RSVPs.

  21. Great job! And your garden photos and header are beautiful.

  22. The new ceiling look beautiful but it sure was a lot of work. Love the birds.

  23. If the weather is as cold as it is in Goshen, IN I'd wait longer before planting anything.

  24. What a beautiful ceiling. No scrapping tiles is NOT the worse job ever. We've done in while on NOMADS projects. The worse job is installing new toilets!

  26. Marsha ... your last comment came with "blogger no reply address" ... to answer your question, Mui bought the OrPine Wash & Wax from Amazon; cheaper than West Marine, where it is also available. Feel free to delete this comment since it has nothing to do with your post ;-)
