August 17 – Looks like we settled on travel plans, at least through the Christmas holidays. We plan on leaving Ohio mid-September heading for Gettysburg, PA. We'll enjoy the history of the Civil War and meet up with some friends before heading a short distance down the road to Baltimore, MD.
We'll enjoy the Baltimore waterfront and Annapolis, MD, and then turn south. We want to stop in Richmond, VA, to see the state capital, and the rest of the city before moving down to Charleston, SC. There's a lot to see and do in Charleston so we'll be there about a week.
After Charleston, it's on to Florida. We'll stop in Jacksonville for a quick visit and then to Fort Walton Beach, FL, for some relaxation time on the beach.
We'll make our usual stop at the Silver Slipper Casino CG on our way through Mississippi to enjoy some additional beach time and hopefully win a bunch of money! This may be our last stop here because the once reasonable price is beginning to suffer from price creep! It is a wonderful CG – right on the beach!
Then it's on to Betty's RV in Abbeville, LA, to enjoy some Cajun lifestyle. They've had significant flooding recently so we'll be sure to check it out before stopping. We stopped at Betty's back in May 2010 and would like to return to some of the zydeco bars and other sights we visited in the past.
We'll bypass Houston temporarily for a quick visit to San Antonio and Austin. We've visited these cities before we started full timing. We want to revisit some of the neat places in each of these two cities and explore some new areas.
We will then return to Houston to spend Thanksgiving with our daughter, Carrie, before heading to Arizona for the winter.
As the saying goes.....This is written in Jell-O and subject to change. At least we know which way to turn when we pull out of the driveway.
That's it for now. If you have any suggestions or “not to miss” adventures along our route, drop us a note and let us know. Travel safe and we hope to see many of our friends in Arizona this winter.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see y’all back real soon. Have a great day!
Sounds like a nice route with lots to see along the way. Lots of cities though. You'll need a nice small town visit after Thanksgiving:) Looking forward to your Gettysburg stop:)
ReplyDeleteGreat route to Florida which we're going to do some day one of these years, so we'll be reading your blog with extra interest. So glad Paul is on this side of surgery and you both can look forward to sightseeing and Arizona hiking!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful way to explore the southern warmer states. A similar route we did many years ago. Our plans are coming together but the jello changes like the weather does.
ReplyDeleteHave fun.
We love Charleston and San Antonio. We haven't been to Gettysburg but keep saying -- one of these days. Looks like a great itinerary but you forgot Arizona.

ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a wonderful winter in the planning along with some great stops on the way. That's the nice thing about RVing, you can always change the plan part way through and still have a fantastic time. Love your pictures!

Sounds like a great plan.... don't know if you've been to Gettysburg before but it is truly one of the most awesome historical sites I've been to. Hope you enjoy the journey west... now I'm thinking about a shrimp po'boy and other cajun goodies ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat plans ... if you're in Annapolis during fall foliage, check out Quiet Waters Parks (https://eenusa.smugmug.com/Day-Trips-Weekend-Getaways/Maryland/Annapolis-Quiet-Waters/). Historic Annapolis (Pinkney Street) is quite photogenic. And of course the US Naval Academy Chapel is lovely ... don't miss the crypt of John Paul Jones.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful agenda. Hope it all works out well.
ReplyDeleteOur cabin is 18 miles west of Gettysburg in the woods. If you have time or inclination to meet for lunch or dinner while you are in the area, let us know. It would be nice to chat with you two. We love Savannah & Charleston & have visited both a number of times.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a full plate. We also have plans to winter in AZ. Perhaps we'll see you there.
ReplyDeleteSounds great, happy to say we have been to or even lived in a few of those places:)
ReplyDeleteAll places we want to visit so looking forward to your reports.
ReplyDeleteOk, it looks like we may have a chance of meeting in Arizona. I'll keep an eye and see where you will be by then.
ReplyDeleteOkay ...I'm blind !
ReplyDeleteWell, well, we'll be at Betty's too. October 27th to November 4th. Wouldn't that be fun.
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of those locations on our radar but not all this year. Who knows after all this time we might meet up in Arizona.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Now that is a great itinerary. I'm looking forward to following along.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to make plans, isn't it? Love Gettysburg!
ReplyDeleteI just left a message on FB for you but not sure you will check there. When staying at Artillery Ridge, they are quite expensive ...$60. But Sun to Thurs night they accept Passport America and Fri and Sat 10% with Good Sam. We were in site 80...a pull through next to office. They will give you passes to 3 attractions in town. Get surprised at Spirit of Gettysburg. FUN!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to all the stories about each and every one of these stops. . .especially the Baltimore area, as we have only taken a day trip there, but would love to take the coach and stay closer so we could really explore. . .when will you guys be heading out?
ReplyDeletewell duh. . .now I see, in the very first sentence that you plan to head out mid September. . .:)
