BOERNE, TEXAS

Saturday, March 2 – We were off early this morning for a BIG DAY touring this part of Hill Country. Our first stop was the town of Boerne (pronounce BER-nee). We visited the town back in 2010. Not much has changed since then. It is a very quaint little town. The town's first settlers were German. The name Boerne is in honor of Ludwig Börne, a German poet and publicist. Ironically, Mr. Börne never visited the town that was named after him.

We strolled main street doing some window shopping and stopped in a number of the small shops to look around. Our only purchase was a jar of pickles......yep, pickles!

This bakery has delicious treats.

A visitor can rent any of the small buildings out back for their night's stay. The church and schoolhouse both can be rented. They contain several bedrooms.

Lots of interesting items can be purchased in the small town.

If only our truck were bigger.

We bought a jar of pickles from The Pickle Place last time we were here. They are delicious. We had to go back and buy another jar. They are called Fickle Pickles…sweet, crunchy, spicy…yummy!

SKYLINE RANCH RV PARK…BANDERA, TEXAS

Friday, March 1 – We are in Texas Hill Country, Bandera, Texas. We had a long but safe six hour drive north from the Rio Grande Valley. We're staying at Skyline Ranch RV Park.

We stayed here back in 2010 and are actually in the same site - #106.

The Park has a country setting, with gravel roads and sites. There is a picnic table at each site and the majority are pull-thru sites. We have a 50 amp, full-hookup site. There is grass and trees between each site. With the campground not being very crowded this time of year, they spread out the RVs leaving an empty site between each. That's nice!

Once we were all set up, we took Bella for a well-deserved walk. She has been on concrete for two months and loves to get out and walk in the woods. She was enjoying her walk until…

she encounter this.

This little guy just couldn't get enough of Bella. He followed us until he couldn't follow no more.

The park has tons of deer. So far they have stayed in the field. The last time we were here, they walked freely through the Park.

The temperatures this time of year, range with lows in the 40's and highs in the upper 60's or 70's. With that said, temperatures for the next two nights are dipping down near freezing.....GREAT! The good news is daytime temperatures will be in the 70's with Monday temperatures reaching into the 80's.....NICE!

We went to the 11^th Street Cowboy Bar to have several beverages, listen to the Natalie Rose Band, and do a little Texas Two-stepping. We had a good time and enjoyed the band.

We knew it would be a classy place when we saw the welcoming signs on the door.

Lucky for us, no one took them up on the dance requirements.

THE LAST GOODBYE

Thursday, February 28 – This is our last day in Leisure Valley Ranch. Tomorrow, March 1, we pull-out heading to Texas Hill Country. Our first stop is in Bandera, TX, for about 5 days exploring that area. We will then move to Fredericksburg, TX, for another 5 days to see what interests us there.

This is our second time to Hill Country. We visited it back in the fall of 2010 in our motorhome. This trip is in the 5^th wheel, a whole new adventure!

Our last day in Mission, TX, was a busy one. Paul spent most of the morning preparing for tomorrow's travel. Storing chairs, tables, hoses, leveling blocks, Marsha's purchases (ha, ha), cleaning off the slides, checking tire pressure, and cleaning up the campsite.

Then it was the “Goodbye Walk.” This is the tearing-eye experience Marsha insists putting herself through. She wants to say goodbye to all the friends she has here in Leisure Valley. Girls and their emotions......jeesh!

Marsha's good friend, Angie, insisted on having a “social” (happy hour) so all the girls could say, “goodbye” again. Paul and the other guys went along with the idea for the food and drinks!

We met at Deb and Phil's house and enjoyed a good time on the patio. We really have met some very nice people here at Leisure Valley. This is our third winter here, and I'm sure we'll be back to visit sometime in the future. Next winter we have tentative plans to try Florida......we'll see!
